How to declare an alias?

Declaring alias addresses optimizes the use of license quota, as only main addresses are counted off of the license pool.

Register alias manually

  1. Go to Clients > Details > Users > User quarantines > Details > Alias > Add.
  2. Type in the Email address for the new alias.
  3. Choose the domain it is registered with.
  4. Click Add.

Importing a list of users

You may import a list of users by uploading a CSV file to Clients > Details > Users > Add user > Import users.

Importing users this way does not prevent using the account auto-discovery modes. It simply allows you to do an initial creation of accounts you already know, without having to wait for a message to be sent to each of these accounts.

Importing users through CSV also allows you to manually register alias addresses to main addresses, so that the license countdown is optimized, since only main addresses are counted off of the license plan.

  1. Prepare a CSV file with the following structure using your preferred software:
    lastname;firstname;mainemail[;alias1;alias2;…]
Note: The default delimiter is the semi-column, but you may use any delimiter you like.
  2. Click Clients > Details > Users > Add user > Import users.
  3. Add your file.
  4. Click Upload.

Once the upload is complete, the list of created users is displayed in the table for review.

Note: An alias cannot be registered to more than one main address.
Attention: The email address of the Global Administrator must NOT be listed in the CSV file, as it already has an account attached to it, named "Global Administrator", which gets created by default and can be accessed through the user list under the Users menu.
Note: Please note that you cannot use automatic alias discovery when using SMTP recipient check.

Discover alias using LDAP

LDAP discovery
Recipient check is done by retrieving the list of users from one or several LDAP directories.
Important: In order to check the list of users against an LDAP directory, you must first configure an LDAP lookup under Administration > Quarantines > Settings > Configure LDAP directories.

Please refer to Configure LDAP directories.
